This is a substantial store, and buildings this size would normally be built on land owned by the proprietor.   There are no entries in the Land Titles system under the name Scarr for New Norfolk.

There are several references to a Scarr's Happy Home Store located in Elizabeth Street (Hobart) on Trove.

Update - I am pretty sure this was located on the site of the subway store.

* H Edwards Bootmaker (1920)
There is no entry in the Land Titles system for an H Edwards in New Norfolk.  The building does not quite match the structure of the known building at this location at this time period. The surrounding buildings do not match.  However in his 1936 obituary, Harry Edwards is spoken of as a New Norfolk businessman.  More research needed.

* Hallam Cycle Agency

This doesn't appear to be the site of the current New Norfolk Newsagency - there is a substantial house where Hackett Street should be.

Several articles and advertising in Trove indicate that the Hallam Cycle Agency was located at 65 Liverpool Street and then later at 83 Liverpool Street Hobart.

Update - I believe this business was demolished to build the new De Jersey's store. The building is very similar to A De Jersey's Boot Emporium before they built the more substantial 2 storey store.

* Andrewartha Store

I cannot find any comparable streetscape to match in New Norfolk.  No record in Land Titles system of Andrewartha owning real estate in New Norfolk.  I did find a CH Andrewartha who managed the family furniture store in Richmond Victoria in 1930 - is that a "CH" I can see on the awning?  A clearer photo will help.

This section is for shops and buildings that we need help to work out where they were located. If you can help us out, we would love to hear from you.

Where was this - what is on the site today? Update: Could it be the same building that later became the Crump Blacksmith in Pioneer Avenue?

Where was this - somewhere in Charles Street behind the cinema? What is on the site today?
FB Wilkinson Pharmacy - date unknown. I am not sure this is actually New Norfolk? In 1890 there were several Hobart stores - F Percy Brooks at 97 Elizabeth Street, Frederick Brooks at 90 Elizabeth Street and Frederick P Brooks at 49 Hampden Road Hobart. I can’t find any evidence that there was more than the one store in New Norfolk and that was located at 54 High Street. It would be highly unusual to have more than one store in a small regional centre.
